Shelter on the Hill hosted the 7th annual Wine and Cheese
event at the vineyard on Tejon Ranch overlooking the lake
on Saturday Sept. 11th. It was gloriously sunny and the
views spectacular. Event coordinators Sue Alberti,
Alice Crandall, Pam Wheeler, and Candace Huskey and
auctioneer Knute Johnson put together a truly outstanding
event. Live music was provided by Sarah Jane Owen.
This year Mike Schmidt of Brucher winery in Santa Maria
poured his varieties, Tejon Ranch offered their their
Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay as well as a half dozen
bottles of wine from the very vineyard we were in.
Special guests Gita Nelson and Dawn Beban of the Mountain Communities SPCA showed their support for the shelter by sponsoring a dog kennel. SOTH’s newest board member, Cristina Dewey announced the “Concrete Campaign”, for exterior hardscape/concrete and the next major step getting the doors open (see coupon on page 5).
Marion Melchiorre, Ann Weber's sister, created an on-site
oil painting of the Tejon hills for the live auction.
Almost 100 items from local artisans and businesses,
wineries, and many others were generously donated for the
live and silent auction. Attendance was the largest to
date and guests seemed reluctant to leave the picturesque
site. Thank you to ALL the volunteers that helped make this
year such a great success.
The date has already been set for next year’s event. Mark you calendars now for September 10, 2011. See you then!
